Mike Tyson’s Former Estate in Bethesda, MD, Sells for $4.58M

Mike Tyson Former Maryland Mansion Sells

A Bethesda, MD, home that once belonged to Mike Tyson has sold, according to the Baltimore Business Journal. The deal closed for $4,575,000 on July 20.

The retired professional boxer, who has been married three times, bought the home with Monica Turner in 1995 for just over $2 million. The couple married in 1997, and when they split in 2003, Turner held on the property, according to the Baltimore Business Journal, which also notes that the sale price was a record for the neighborhood.

This is also the place where Tyson’s infamous pet white tiger cub escaped, and was found at a neighboring property, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The gated compound initially listed for the aspirational price of $8,588,000 last May. Shortly thereafter, the price was sliced to just under $6 million, and was then dropped again in October 2020 to $5,788,000.

It returned to market in March for $5.25 million, and that price seemed to be in the right range to coax a buyer to make an offer for the massive estate.

Built in 1988, the newly updated interior comes with a gourmet kitchen, living room, dining room, and butler’s pantry. Other highlights include a wood-paneled library with a wet bar and fireplace, a billiard-room, media room, and taproom and bar, all ideal spots for entertaining. An elevator connects all three floors.

Outdoors, the resort-level expanse boasts terraces and verandas, along with a heated pool, spa, sports court, and changing room. The rare, secluded expanse offers verdant, rolling views from every room.

Tyson left the area long ago, and now resides in the Las Vegas suburb of Henderson, NV. A recent documentary series about the boxer aired on ABC, titled “Mike Tyson: The Knockout.” Jamie Foxx is reportedly set to star in a limited scripted series called “Tyson.” The heavyweight champion has also appeared in “The Hangover” movie series.

Daniel Heider with TRR Sotheby’s International Realty represented both the buyer and the seller in the transaction.
