Here’s an opportunity to really score! The exquisite La Jolla estate of the late sportscaster Dick Enberg was first listed at $9.8 million in 2019, whittled down the following year to $8.45 million, and then dropped again to $7.85 million. Now, the spread is back on the market at the even lower price of $7.2 million.

He then built a French-style chateau, which he filled with period architectural details and antiques, including pieces that date to the 16th century.

Those historic elements, mostly from France, are impossible to replace or reproduce, and include fabulous finds like an exterior entry stone arch that dates to the Renaissance.

The home also has imported antique windows and doors that are over 300 years old, and a French antique jail door that leads to the 3,000-plus-bottle wine cellar—which still has its original keys!

Priceless antiques like these can be found throughout the five-bedroom, eight-bathroom, 8,576-square-foot property. The gourmet kitchen, for example, features an antique fireplace, columns, and a mantel imported from France, which surrounds the oven. It also has arched ceilings lined with reclaimed brick pavers.

The owners’ suite features shutters from a French convent, as well as a spacious walk-in closet, a luxurious bathroom, and a cozy fireplace. The property has four fireplaces on the premises, including in the living room, family room, and outdoors.

Outside, multiple seating areas, including spectator seats that came from Wimbledon, all have access to the terraces, pool, spa, and an outdoor kitchen. You can even find a hammock or two suspended from the mature trees, and hidden by the lush foliage that surrounds the house.

Of course there are modern conveniences as well, such as a gym, a home office with a world map that spans an entire wall, and a recreation room with a billiard-table, wet bar, and home theater.

With all these luxuries, what more could the Enberg family have possibly added to improve on perfection? Well, some of the bathrooms have recently been remodeled, the kitchen has been updated, and a bathroom and entrance have been added to the main floor to create a separate guest suite.

Enberg, whose career spanned nearly six decades, was a staple of national sports coverage on NBC, CBS, and ESPN, both on radio and television. He was also a play-by-play announcer for UCLA Bruins basketball, Los Angeles Rams football, and San Diego Padres baseball (where he finished his professional career in 2016).

His honors include 13 Sports Emmy Awards, nine National Sportscaster of the Year awards, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, among many others. In 1973, he was the first U.S. sportscaster to visit the People’s Republic of China.
