Famous comedian Joan Rivers may have passed away in 2014, but her spirit lives on in the New York City apartment where she lived for 28 years until her death. The penthouse is now on the market for $38 million.

According to TopTenRealEstateDeals, the 5,200-square-foot triplex still has many of Rivers’ original furnishings and decor. And not surprisingly, her tastes were as wild and lavish as she was.

Rivers purchased the four-bedroom, 4.5-bath penthouse in 1988 after selling her home in Los Angeles. She decided to honor the building’s tres French vibe with an interior that channels Marie Antoinette.

Every room sports over-the-top Louis XIV decor complete with ornate French panels and gold detailing.

Rivers wasn’t the only noteworthy resident here. She had claimed the building was haunted by the former owner—a lady named Mrs. Spencer, who had to be ousted by exorcism.

Not only were apparitions supposedly spotted in various rooms, but Rivers even blamed the ghost for nibbling tiny parts off one of her chandeliers.

The fix? In a 2009 episode of “Celebrity Ghost Stories,” Rivers described how she was able to banish the Spencer specter once and for all by engaging the exorcism services of a voodoo priestess.

And to keep Rivers in the spirit’s good graces, a portrait of Spencer was put on display in a hallway.

Inside Joan Rivers’ palatial home

Rivers’ three-story abode is basically the top portion of a neo-French Classic–style mansion that was designed by architect Horace Trumbauer in 1903. Originally built for John and Alice Drexel, a pair of wealthy Philadelphians, the building eventually became a small luxury apartment house with just nine units.

A powder-blue ceiling in one grand space is painted with clouds and doves, and a massive mezzanine overlooks the music room.

A two-story gallery entrance leads to a living room with soaring windows and a wood-burning fireplace. Parquet-de-Versailles flooring is laid in the public rooms, and the apartment also boasts two more fireplaces in the corner library and formal dining room as well as a ballroom.

Two gorgeous south-facing terraces offer 430 square feet of outdoor space.

A master suite is upstairs in the apartment’s corner, while two bedrooms with en suite baths are on the lower level.

The original “Fashion Police” host was known to throw lavish dinner parties over the years, with A-list celebrities in attendance, including Martha Stewart, Nancy Reagan, Regis Philbin, and Princess Diana. Rivers also served the building’s community as president of the condo board.
