A home close to the art district in Phoenix is a work of art in its own distinctive way. The home on 15th Avenue is a testament to one man’s love of its enduring beauty.

“The whole house is full of marble,” explains the listing agent, Dylan Doherty. “The gentleman who owns it is Italian and is into the Italian feel of things. All the pieces inside, all the pieces outside, the floor, the ceiling, walls, they’re all made of 100% Italian marble.”

The extensive amounts of marble aren’t the only artisanal elements in play. The home’s wood accents were hand-carved in Turkey.

The marble-filled, two-bedroom, 1,307-square-foot home is now available for $800,000.

Potential buyers must be prepared for bold colors and design choices—there’s nothing neutral about this house.

“It’s not your normal, modern-looking home that you see nowadays,” Doherty says. “There’s just an amazing amount of design. Obviously, it’s not everybody’s cup of tea, but it has that experience to it. The owner describes it as his ‘marble showroom.’”

Whoever buys this house will need to appreciate marble. The house was built around some of the large statues visible in the listing photos and removing them would be more than a chore.

“They got these marble structures inside before putting on the front of the house,” Doherty explains. “Someone who wants to get rid of those would have to remove the wall. It’s just not that easy as just taking them out.”

So while the home is relatively petite, the list price factors in the value of much of the marble.

“When the appraiser appraised the home, he tested the marble structures. We got proof that it was full, 100% Italian marble,” Doherty says.

Outside, the front courtyard is gated with fruit trees and a marble sculpture garden.

“A lot of people take pictures outside of the house. People are just astonished,” Doherty explains.

Most of the sculptures are of lions, but there is one of a dolphin. Doherty says the larger lions are worth about $250,000 each.

“These things are taller than I am,” he says.

Out back, there’s a pool flanked by more marble statues—it’s not explained why the figure in one of the structures is wearing a raincoat and a rain hat.

A separate 225-square-foot structure is near the pool. It could be described as a casita, but it has no plumbing.

Doherty says the seller has a wish: to get back to Italy with his family and to pass the house on to someone who loves marble and will be excited to see it at close quarters every day.
