BREAKING: GSP trooper injured in fiery crash in Atlanta

A fiery crash near a major Atlanta interstate left a Georgia State Patrol trooper injured Tuesday morning, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The trooper was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital after the crash, which happened on Bolton Road just east of I-285, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

It is not clear what led to the wreck. According to the Traffic Center, a car went through the barricades and into the woods before catching fire.

Authorities have not said if the trooper’s patrol car is the vehicle that caught fire.

Fire crews at the scene are still working to extinguish the burning car.

Bolton Road is shut down in both directions while authorities are investigating the incident. Authorities have also closed the ramp to I-285 from Bolton Road, the Traffic Center reported. Drivers should use Hollowell Parkway, Riverview Road or Marietta Boulevard as alternate routes to avoid the area.

An Atlanta Journal-Constitution photographer is headed to the scene of the incident.

We are working to learn more.
