Atlanta school board taps Tennessee educator as next superintendent

Bryan Johnson, a former superintendent of the Hamilton County school district in Chattanooga, is the Atlanta school board’s sole finalist for superintendent. Johnson currently serves as the executive vice chancellor and chief strategy officer at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Atlanta Public Schools has been without a permanent leader for almost a year after board members decided not to extend former Superintendent Lisa Herring’s contract.

Young Thug’s attorney accuses judge of joining ‘prosecutors’ team’

Rapper Young Thug’s defense lawyer says the judge presiding over the musician’s gang and racketeering trial in Atlanta should be disqualified from the case after last week’s secret meeting between the judge, prosecutors and a state’s witness. Brian Steel’s client, hip-hop star Jeffery Williams, has been on trial since the beginning of 2023, along with five codefendants. Now in its 18th month, it is the longest trial in Georgia history.

Atlanta ranks fifth in U.S. for home sales in May 

The city also ranked fifth for year-over-year increases in new listings, RE/MAX said, citing its National Housing Report.
